An open book box for textbooks, binders, notes, and other school supplies is affixed to the underside of each rectangular top of our open front desks. In that the youngster can't slam the lid shut, and everything inside is within easy reach, this is a good alternative if you're shopping for a smaller child.

This design's hinged top conceals its contents, making it ideal for storing textbooks and other school supplies. Since anything placed on top of a desk with a lift top will need to be moved every time the lid is lifted, this type of desk could potentially add more work.

The work surface of these workstations is not built into the chair itself but rather is attached to an arm. Tablet arms can be mounted on the left or right side of some desks. Because of the convenient entry and exit, these desks are ideal for secondary school and higher students.
Space Saving Workstation
These workstations, which combine a tabletop and a seat, go by the name "combo desks." It's common for both chairs and desks to have four legs. Each side of a combination desk can be used comfortably by a student of either hand.
Group Workstations
Two pupils can work comfortably at each of these desks, and in some cases, even more, depending on individual dimensions. Open book boxes for each student are an option for two-person desks.

These workstations can be assembled into a wide variety of collaborative workstations of various sizes and configurations. After a meeting or activity has concluded, the desks can be easily removed to return to their original, individual configuration.
Material
Top
The most prevalent types of school desks are those composed of solid plastic or particleboard with a laminate or melamine finish. Particleboard is less expensive but won't last as long as solid plastic would, and both options will stand the test of time.

Most chairs that come with combination desks have a book rack built into the underside of the seat, and these racks are often composed of steel rods. You can have it as a flat book rack or a boxed book rack. Desks without chairs will often be built of metal or plastic and will feature a book box beneath the desk's desktop.
Frame
Unless your desk is entirely wooden, its frame is probably built of tubular steel. Thicker steel means a stronger frame.

Both hard and flexible plastics are available for the chairs that come with a combo desk. Although solid plastic chairs are more durable, they are also more likely to crack, and while soft plastic chairs are less expensive and sometimes more pleasant, they are not as durable as their solid plastic counterparts.
