Legal precedent for US judge to rule poker as a skill game

The ruling was made by Pennsylvania Judge Thomas A. James Jr., of Columbia County, who was hearing a case in which a man was accused of running an NLHE game in low stakes in a garage. Walter Watkins and his girlfriend, Diane Dent, were arrested after an undercover investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police and were facing 20 charges each for illegal gambling. 에볼루션 바카라사이트

The defense has argued that poker is basically a technology-based game and therefore not illegal under current Pennsylvania gambling laws. After reviewing the extensive literature on poker play and strategies presented by the defense, the judge concluded the same: "It is clear that technology prevails over chance."

Watkins said in a statement to The Associated Press: "It is unfortunate that we have had to go through all of this. We were arrested and dragged out of the house. I spent the night in jail in shackles. It is all because of a poker game."

Lobbyists in the poker industry were delighted by the news. John Pappas, executive director of the Poker Players Association, told Poker News Daily that it is clear that the judge understands the poker game and that the ruling will set a precedent for use in future court cases involving poker.
